How do exams work?

As a dance school, we offer the opportunity to participate in examinations with the very well established and prestigious Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance.

Exam opportunities start usually in Year 3. All students are carefully and always considered. Many factors contribute towards whether and when your child is ready for an exam. We will be in touch when your child is ready for an exam. There is an additional cost involved and this will be explained when your child is offered to participate.

The exam process includes additional coaching sessions and a mock exam before the exam day. We usually host a private session of exams at the end of term in December and March in Streatham. The cost can vary but it is usually around £90-£130 for the total exam cost.

Is there anywhere to wait onsite?

St Leonards Church Waiting is available on site for Thursday classes. Saturday, waiting offsite is advised however you can wait onsite in the kitchenette or stairs area. There isn’t much room, but it would provide shelter from bad weather.

Dunraven Secondary School We can only offer a waiting area from during our BalletDots and Mini Movers classes (Preschool and Reception level). All other classes are drop off and collection only.

What They’re Saying

My daughter has been at WhizzDance for over 6 years doing tap, ballet and jazz as well as going to their school holiday camps when she was younger. WhizzDance is an inclusive, positive and encouraging place and she has flourished there. They have given her the opportunity to explore many types of dance, prepare for exams and be on stage for their fabulous shows. The teachers have taken the time to really get to know her, discover what she’s capable of and to push her to be the best she can be as a dancer. This means she not only loves her dance lessons now but it’s given her a lifelong love of dancing and dance classes to take with her into the future.

My daughter and I have both been attending classes with WhizzDance for a number of years. My daughter started ballet with WhizzDance when she was 3 and has been attending for almost 8 years. She has performed in a number of shows and done really well in several her exams in that time. I like that the children are only encouraged to move up a stage or do an exam if they want to and are ready for it, our daughter has loved the challenge and is thriving. I joined the adult jazz and tap classes, having not danced since my early teens and having never tap danced in my life. The group is fun and really supportive and people have different levels of experience. Miss Maria and all her team are fantastic teachers and I would highly recommend WhizzDance to anyone whether they are experienced or new to dance.

My children love WhizzDance. They both started with the combined ballet and jazz class at 5 and then progressed onto separate classes for each. They enjoy their lessons and have always had excellent teachers who they build strong relationships with. My eldest, now 9, has taken part in 2 ballet exams. Miss Maria is careful to offer the exam process when students are ready and informs parents of the commitment required before it starts so that we, and the children, can make an informed choice about whether to enter. They also both have WhizzTheatrics lessons which they replicate at home. The WhizzDance productions have been a highlight for us as parents and our children thoroughly enjoyed the process.

Since joining Eliana to WhizzDance she has grown in confidence and is enjoying her time. The entire staff from the Principal to Dance Teachers/Choreographers are so organised, friendly and helpful. They’re completely transparent with the schedules and fees in advance. They have lovely events you can attend and support your child as well as the Team. Miss Rachel has been a great teacher for Eliana as well as supportive to me in guiding my daughter to develop her confidence in ballet. Miss Maria has been exceptionally great in her planning and organised way which helps me! We love WhizzDance!

My daughter joined WhizzDance relatively late aged nine, coming into a class the other pupils her age had been doing for years. Maria was convinced my daughter would be able to catch up and encouraged her from day one - and she has gone on to take two exams and perform in the WhizzDance show. This is a truly wonderful dance school that wants everyone to discover the joy of dancing and the self-confidence it brings. Can’t recommend it highly enough!

Sofia has been going to WhizzDance since she was 3 years old and absolutely loves it. Her teacher Miss Sammy is warm, kind and fun! It is testament to her and the professional way in which the dance school is run by Miss Maria that Sofia looks forward to her class each week. Of all the weekend activities that Sofia participates in, ballet at Whizz Dance is her favourite. Thank you for creating such a nurturing and welcoming environment and for providing Sofia with an excellent platform to explore her love of dance.
